Blood-Borne Viruses: HTM 01-05 Compliance
Blood-borne viruses (BBVs) such as HBV, HCV, and HIV present significant risks in dental settings. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of these risks and the compliance requirements of HTM 01-05 to ensure a safe environment for both staff and patients.
BBV transmission in dentistry can occur through:
- Sharp injuries and contact with contaminated surfaces.
- Aerosolized particles during procedures.
- Failure to use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) or adhere to sterilisation practices.
Dental professionals are responsible for maintaining compliance with HTM 01-05, regular training, and establishing a culture of safety through effective infection control measures.
Aim
The aim of the learning and teaching materials in this Dentaljuce module is to develop professional knowledge, understanding, and competence in managing BBV risks and ensuring compliance with HTM 01-05 in dental settings.
Course objective
