Pathophysiology of Sleep Apnoea.
Genetic Factors
Emerging evidence suggests that genetic factors play a role in the development of sleep apnoea . Twin and family studies have demonstrated a heritability of sleep apnoea , with an estimated genetic contribution ranging from 30% to 70%.
Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified several genetic loci associated with sleep apnoea , including genes involved in craniofacial development, obesity, and neural control of the upper airway.
However, the genetic architecture of sleep apnoea remains incompletely understood, and further studies are needed to elucidate the complex interplay between genetic and environmental factors.
